Post War years


  • Joe Rosenthal was an American Photographer who received a prize for his iconic World War 2 photograph Raising the Flag on Iwo Jimi.  He told the soldiers to repeat putting up the flag so it wasn't a genuine photograph however the image represents Americas independence and shows the struggle of the war.
  • Walter Han Dresen was a British photojournalist noted for is work in Africa and for taking the first  work in Africa and for taking the first photographs of the death camps at Bergen-Belsen at the end of the second world war.


  • Robert Frankis an important American figure in photography and film.  "The Americans" was influential to Amerial society. He travelled all over America to take the photographs, over 8,000 shots were taken and only 83 of those were finally selected for the publication. Frank found irony in American culture and wealth as did his use of unusual focus, low lighting and cropping that deviated from accepted photographic techniques.








  • William Klein is a photographer and filmmaker noted to for his ironic approach. His work was considered revolutionary for its ambivalent images, and for his extensive use of wide-angle lenses, natural lighting and motion blur. 

  • David Bailey is regarded as one of the best British photographers. He was a fashion photographer for Vogue magazine.

  • Richard Avedon was a American fashion photographer and helped define Americas image of style and culture.


  • William Eggleston was an American photographer and is widely credited with increasing recognition for colour photography as an artistic medium to display in art galleries.
