Chinese photographer Wang Jinsong focused on family as an act of political resistance. In his series of photographs titled 'Standard Familys' he aimed to highlight China's one child policy. The images of middle aged and older couples is probably understood instantly by Chinese viewers but maybe not as apparent to western the western audience?
"Yet, as Wang, explained, the image can be appreciated negatively, by those who object to China's rule, and positively, by those who favour population control." (Mary Warner Marien, 2002)

I feel these these images have used the average Chinese family in a clever way. They have highlighted a controversial topic without causing offence to either side of the argument.
